Although there's plenty of wireless, and small-sized keyboards available, it's quite hard to find a USB wired keyboard with a nice action, large enough to type comfortably, yet small enough to still be easy to transport for demos or teaching.
The value of a USB wired keyboard on the Raspberry Pi, is that it's connected immediately: essential when you're need to type in passwords for encrypted filesystems, or be connected immediately at boot, rather than waiting for bluetooth or wireless drivers and services to load.
